Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
